- Hint 2. There are 27 answers on the board. Easy picks are worth 1 point; deep cuts are worth 5.
- Hint 3. A rarer answer starts with "T" and is 12 letters long.
- Hint 4. A rarer answer starts with "C" and has 2 words (11 letters).
- Hint 5. A rarer answer starts with "B" and is 8 letters long.
- Hint 6. A rarer answer starts with "M" and has 2 words (16 letters).
- Hint 7. A rarer answer starts with "A" and has 2 words (16 letters).
Hint order matters. If you only need a nudge, read the first two and go back to the game.
How to use hints well
Hints are built to stretch a round rather than end it. The first hint frames the category, the second tells you how big the board is, and the remaining hints describe the starting letter and length of some of the rarer answers. That is usually enough to unstick a pen without spoiling the thrill of a deep cut.
If you are playing the daily round, the clock only starts on your first guess, so read all seven hints before you type anything. In unlimited mode there is no clock at all — hints are there to help you finish a board you started.
